Things to do this week in Wales

Cardiff Castle with daffodils in the foreground

Tafwyl fair

For the first time Cardiff Castle’s grounds will be used to host Tafwyl Fair, with cooking demonstrations by Bryn Williams, drama workshops from Sherman Cymru and all manner of Cyrmu-crazed superbness. Organisers promise it’ll be the biggest fair yet. Cardiff Castle, June 23, www.tafwyl.org

Adain Avion

To celebrate the 2012 Games, local sportsmen will drag the fuselage of a plane to the Waterfront Museum, where its black box recorder will film for a week to build an “eclectic collective memory” of Wales. National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, June 24-30, www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/swansea

The View

Hailed as Dundee’s finest band, but trust us, they’re better than that. The wee rascals are back with an album called Cheeky for A Reason, which lead singer Kyle Falconer says is like “Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours done by The Clash”. Cardiff University Union, June 19, www.theviewareonfire.com

The Tempest

Ballet Cymru presents its own take on Shakespeare’s classic tale, with the music written in the 1920s by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. A sumptuous backdrop evokes the mystical island setting – this is a spellbinding version of Will’s last play. The Riverfront, Newport, June 20, www.welshballet.co.uk

Ya Don't Stop 2012

Ya Don’t Stop 2012

There’s nothing more Welsh than hip hop, which was forged in the gritty heart of Aberystwyth’s urban dystopia. Or not. Anyway, this ‘B-Boy workout’ is a day of beatboxing, breakdancing and graffiti with a Cymru twist. Gold-looking chains strictly optional. Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd, June 23, www.muni.rct-arts.org

Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama 1st Birthday Party

The RWCMD’s stunning new building opened a year ago, so it’s time to celebrate. After a quick glass of champagne, visitors will be treated to jazz, classical and symphonic recitals by the college’s rising stars. Cathays Park, Cardiff, June 23, www.rwcmd.ac.uk

Guto Nyth Brân

The eponymous hero of this play is a near-legendary Welsh runner who spent the early part of the 18th century legging it around the country before dying at the end of a victorious race. This touring show is one of many works inspired by the Welsh Usain Bolt. Various venues, until June 30, www.aradgoch.org
