All in Good Time: Amara Karan & Reece Ritchie in union talks

The stars of All in Good Time, Amara Karan & Reece Ritchie discuss marriage, and corrupting Dame Judi Dench...

Can tell me what the film’s about – otherwise you’ll get my summary.
Amara Karan: No, tell me what your summary is.

It’s the story of a newly married couple trying to consummate their marriage.
AK: Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Anything apart from that?
AK: The more you go on to describe the film the more you get in to what is stopping them consummating their marriage.

Are you sick of being asked about not being able to do ‘it’ yet?
Reece Ritchie: There’s a whole Pandora’s Box there. Why he’s not unable to fulfil his manly duty…

I liked that the film was quite light-hearted. You do know there will be a ‘happy ending’.
RR: There isn’t, really.

Yeah, but that ruins the joke.
AK: Well, it is a comedy.
RR: I can’t agree with that. I think it’s very funny, but calling it a comedy takes away from the drama. I like how it’s done both. Would you call it a comedy?

I would call it a drama that happens to have funny characters in it.
RR: It’s a good thing that it’s not one or the other. That’s what I like about it.
AK: I think it would be underselling it just to call it a comedy. So do we dodge the genre question?

Were you happy to have each other as screen husband and wife?
RR: We got on well, didn’t we?
AK: Yeah, I’m really proud of their relationship.

Reece, you’ve been in big movies like Prince of Persia – is a job like this different?
RR: Fundamentally, it’s always the same journey. If you’re a space-age dude in a predicament or you’re Atul who can’t get it up, you’ve got to stay true to the essence of that character.

I read online that you took Dame Judi Dench to Nando’s…
RR: Part of me wishes I’d never said that. I felt bad for Judi, thinking if she read that she’d think I was going round telling people how she likes her chicken.

Amara, can you trump the Nando’s anecdote?
AK: I will never be able to trump the Nando’s anecdote.
RR: Judi Dench just went by on a bus there.

On an advert?
AK: Oh my God, that’s so weird. We’re summoning her.
