My Week - Christine Bleakley
My week has changed dramatically since I left Daybreak, because those mornings started at 3am. Anyone who does crazy night shifts or even mums and dads of wee babies will know it does strange things to you. It just wasn’t good for me or, indeed, anyone in my vicinity.
I’ve already spoken to Adrian [Chiles] about seven times this morning, so I don’t have time to miss him. I think I talk to him now more than I did when we worked together. He lives five minutes away from us.
With Dancing on Ice, it’s all going to be about the weekends. There’s a lot of dress fittings. I have to go and see whether I’ve put any weight on over Christmas, which I probably have. I try and do as much exercise as I can. I have a cup of tea or coffee first thing and then I ideally go for a bit of a run.
Then it’s into work mode. I’ll be doing interviews or going to meetings. I’m just in the car now on the way to meet a lot of the celebs who are going to be taking part this year. Then I’m going to a camera rehearsal, ahead of the dress rehearsal tomorrow, ahead of the real show on Sunday.
We’ve been looking after Frank’s [Lampard, her fiancé] girls for a month. The Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park was a great venue for us over Christmas – eating doughnuts and drinking mulled wine while going on the rides. The kids love anything to do with animals so we go to farms, where you get to pet all the animals. Every time I take them I think about Streamvale Farm in Dundonald. It was all about the little lambs for me.
We haven’t been able to book anything for the wedding yet because we don’t know when we’ll be able to do it with Frank’s football schedule. There are hotels at home that must be putting out press releases daily. I wouldn’t mind but there’s been quite a few stories about me supposedly paying off some poor girl whose wedding day was on the day I wanted – making me sound like some horrible spoilt brat. That annoys me.
Going down to the football with Frank’s dad is very much part of the weekly routine now. I enjoy it much more than I thought I would. I had no interest in football when I met him. Now I’m looking at league tables and knowing how many games are in hand. I’ve come a long way.
I get home to Northern Ireland quite a lot. We’re a very close family. My parents have given me, I like to think, a humble foundation. You wouldn’t be able to get too carried away with yourself. I am turning into my mum – I love cleaning and dusting and ironing. I’m not even going to complain about it because if I’m half the woman my mum is, I’ll be happy. We’d all be lost without her.
