Big Issue world exclusive: Paul McCartney reveals his dream premonition of success

Paul McCartney has revealed that he and John Lennon shared the same premonition of The Beatles’ huge success before the band ever got together.

In an interview with The Big Issue (out on Monday, February 13) the superstar exclusively revealed that he had dreamed of digging up gold coins in his garden, and when he first met Lennon and told him of his nocturnal visions, Lennon confessed that he too had dreamt of unearthing gold.

In a world exclusive, McCartney told the magazine: “Life gives you minor premonitions. You don’t think of them as premonitions until the dream comes true and you think, ‘hey, I wonder if that was a sign?’.

“I remember when John and I were first hanging out together, I had a dream about digging in the garden with my hands. I’d dreamt that before but I’d never found anything other than an old tin can.

“But in this dream, I found a gold coin. I kept digging and I found another. And another.”

When he told Lennon next morning, John replied: “That’s funny, I had the same dream.”

McCartney added: “So both of us had this dream of finding treasure. And I suppose you could say it came true.”

In a ranging piece in which McCartney offers his 16 year old self advice given what he has learned through the years he also revealed the nerves he felt on early dates with girls and how he felt he was a more natural father than Lennon became.
