Wedding coordinator and stylist, Beth Allen, has come up with a creative and fun way to support Big Issue vendors this lockdown with #TheBigIssueBounce.
Beth explains more about the fundraising idea and what inspired her to support Big Issue vendors:
“While out walking on a freezing February morning, my thoughts turned to my Big Issue vendors in Basingstoke and Winchester who I had not seen for almost a year. Like many, I have been hit hard by the pandemic, as the wedding industry was forced to close its doors. However, I have a support network which means that I have not been without throughout these hard months. I worried that my friendly vendors and many hundreds like them were struggling too – but without the much needed support that I have relied on.
A brainstorming session with family led to the idea of The Big Issue Bounce… bringing some much needed joy back to the wedding industry while also raising funds for an important cause in much need of support. The plan was simple – get people into their wedding outfits or fancy clothes, bounce around to their favourite tunes and post on social media using the hashtag #bigissuebounce…. and then of course donate on the JustGiving page.
On Valentines weekend I got the event started by getting my dress on… which had been in a bag for 5.5years! It became a family occasion with my husband getting his suit on and our 5 year old (who I was pregnant with when I last wore the dress!) bounced around with us. It was the most fun we’d had in lockdown and Hannah cleverly captured the moment from 150 miles away in a virtual photoshoot.
I would highly encourage people to get involved! It was such a treat to get dressed up and dance. I really hope we will be back on busy high streets again soon, chatting to our vendors over a hot chocolate, but until then they need our support.”
