The Big Step Challenge is our first ever virtual event where supporters can take part from anywhere in the country, using their phone, computer or fitness tracker. Walking 10,000 steps a day is definitely a challenge for many, but this hasn’t stopped nearly 100 supporters getting involved- many have raised way over the target of £100 per person!

Michele Price, the Nightshelter Manager, explained why they’re taking part: “I have huge admiration for the Big Issue vendors in Winchester, whom we see outside come rain or shine, working hard to earn their keep and maintain a living. When we heard that The Big Issue [Foundation]’s Big London Night Walk had to be cancelled this year due to severe weather, we felt that we really wanted to support our fellow homelessness charity. We are all working towards the same goal – to improve the lives of those experiencing homelessness – and it’s important to show solidarity.”

She continued: “Our residents have really enjoyed taking part. We’re all walking more, and it’s amazing to see what you can achieve on a daily basis just by getting out and about. We’re hoping that everyone will continue to walk more as a result of the challenge.”

Stephen Robertson, CEO of The Big Issue Foundation said “I am delighted that our good friends at the Winchester Nightshelter have stepped up to the plate and out onto the street to help us raise funds for our work. Thank you one and all.”

We’re delighted to have their support and you can donate to the Nightshelter team in their Big Step Challenge here!
