Undeb Bangor External Trustee Recruitment

UNDEB BANGOR (BANGOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ UNION) IS A SUCCESSFUL, VIBRANT & EXCITING ORGANISATION WITH AN EXCITING FUTURE AHEAD.

Undeb Bangor is a vibrant, student-led charity representing over 9,000 students at Bangor University. We’re proud to be rooted in North Wales, and our work is shaped by our values: Supportive, Bold, Empowering, Community-Focused, Fun, and Bangor Proud.

We have a team of five Student Officers elected to ensure that student ideas, needs and wants are being acted upon and a team of 15 career staff and 8 student staff who support to deliver our Union wide strategy and plans.

At the heart of our governance is our Trustee Board and at the heart of our Trustee Board are our Trustees. These 13 people make crucial decisions about the Union and our External Trustees bring particular expertise and experience to the Board. We have four places reserved for External Trustees on our board (who sit alongside our five Student Officers and four Student Trustees).

Do you want to make a difference and support us to represent, empower, and support students at Bangor University, setting them up for the future, working with us to build a strong and engaging Students’ Union?

We’re looking to recruit two external trustees to join our Board of Trustees.

Our Trustee Board plays a vital role in guiding our strategic direction, ensuring strong governance, and championing a culture that reflects our values. We’ve recently undertaken a piece of work to enhance our board’s effectiveness and culture, focusing on collaboration, inclusion, and shared leadership. We’re now looking to build on this momentum by welcoming two new trustees who share our commitment to student empowerment and organisational excellence.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:

  • HR and people development – supporting inclusive, values-led organisational culture.
  • Finance and income diversification – ensuring long-term sustainability and sound financial oversight, and bringing strategic insight into grants, charitable fundraising, or corporate partnerships.
  • Welsh language – Welsh language skills and an understanding of the national and local context and the importance of the Welsh language to student life at Bangor.

We’re committed to building a diverse board that reflects a range of skills, experiences, and identities. Whether this is your first trusteeship, or you bring extensive experience, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll do:

  • Help oversee the delivery of our new 2025–2030 strategy.
  • Ensure we make sound financial decisions and follow legal frameworks
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive board culture.
  • Champion our values and be responsive to the changing needs of our students
  • Attend four board meetings per year (online or in person).
  • Participate in sub-committees or working groups aligned with your expertise.

Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings a year and join at least one of our sub-committees which also have four meetings a year, all of which are online. Most meetings are hybrid meetings with the possibility of attending in-person or online with the expectation that trustees attend one in-person meeting a year in July.

This is a voluntary unpaid role, but travel expenses and all out-of-pocket expenses in connection with the Trustee role will be reimbursed.

Interviews for this position will be held online and are likely to take place the week commencing 8th of September.
