The Big Issue was created 25 years ago to provide society’s most vulnerable with the means to earn a legitimate income by selling a magazine to the public.

However, selling magazines on the street isn’t for everyone. Likewise, not everyone who would like to support The Big Issue is able to get hold of a copy of the magazine on a regular basis. So we set out to create a subscription scheme which offers different work-based opportunities for people facing poverty, as well as offering a different means of buying the magazine.

Subscriptions to the magazine are not discounted, because we won’t undercut our street-based sellers, but by subscribing to the magazine you are enabling us to:

  • Create supported employment opportunities for vulnerable people in our subscription fulfilment team (see Mark’s story below)
  • Better support our network of 2000 street-based Big Issue sellers – all profits are reinvested to increase our capacity to help the most vulnerable in society
  • More effectively deliver our mission of dismantling poverty and creating opportunity
Mark went from selling the magazine to working in The Big Issue office fulfilling subscriptions. He said: "I really enjoy working in the office helping with subscriptions. It makes a lovely change to being out selling the magazine on the street, day in day out in all weathers. I really appreciate this opportunity and I hope it can help me gain further employment in the future.”

All whilst receiving a multi award-winning news and entertainment magazine delivered to your door on a weekly basis! Subscriptions start from £32.50 for three months.
