The Big Issue exists to help people who are homeless or long-term unemployed and may be at risk of losing their accommodation or falling into debt. In unpredictable times, we provide an opportunity for people to earn their own income.

This is how The Big Issue works:

  • Vendors buy each copy of the magazine upfront for £1.50 and sell it to the public for £3 – making £1.50 on every copy sold.
  • Our vendors wear a red tabard, work from a fixed pitch, and can choose their hours of work.
  • We offer training and support to all new vendors.
  • There are 63 distribution points nationwide, and pitches are available across the UK. The Big Issue magazine currently sells around 80,000 copies in the UK – meaning over £100,000 is going into the pockets of those who need it most every single week.
