Determined Walkers!

Recently we were forced to cancel our biggest event of the year The Big London Night walk due to heavy snowfall. Since then, we have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from determined participants who have completed their own walks.

Recently we were forced to cancel our biggest event of the year The Big London Night walk due to heavy snowfall. Since then, we have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from determined participants who have completed their own walks.

Kate and Jeff walked their own 13 mile route locally to where they live. They reported that the conditions were challenging with hail and snow along the way but they found the overall experience extremely rewarding and even reached their highest ever daily step count of 30,000 steps! Their route through Lee Valley Park from Waltham to Hoddesdon took them past stunning frozen lakes and an array of bird and animal wildlife.

“It has been a good experience for us to push our level of fitness and walk further than we would normally, especially in the winter time”

Tracy and Emma rescheduled their own walk recently and undertook a 13 mile route from Seaford Head along the coast to Brighton Pier.

“I found it particularly challenging this year, as I’ve had a recent diagnosis of MS and get very tired. But I was determined to complete the challenge and raise funds for the Big Issue Foundation. The weather was kind to us and we had a couple of brief rest stops (and ice cream) along the way.”

Laura completed her own solo walk in the snow covered fields and hills that surround the area she lives in Henley in Arden. Walking along snow drifts and canals where the water had almost completely frozen over she powered through the extreme -3 temperatures to complete her walk in 5 hours.

“What mostly kept me going was the thought of all the homeless people that are suffering in this present weather and that The Big Issue can make such a difference in their lives, all year round, and give them a stepping stone to returning to being treated as a human being again.”

Thank you to our wonderful fundraisers for their support, whatever the weather. If this has inspired you to get involved, why not think about organising your own walk, or another event? All ideas are welcome, big or small, just get in touch here.
