Demand an end to poverty this General Election

Will you sign our open letter to party leaders?

Dear Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer, Ed Davey, Carla Denyer, Adrian Ramsay, Stephen Flynn and Liz Saville-Roberts,

We demand an end to poverty.

1 in 5 people in the UK live in poverty. That’s 14 million people struggling to meet their most basic needs, including 4 million children. This is the highest level of child poverty since records began.

As our leaders, you cannot let this crisis continue.

For too long, the political establishment has been plastering over the cracks when it comes to tackling poverty. The next Government must urgently start investing in people affected by poverty, so that we can end poverty once and for all.

Voters will be backing candidates in the General Election who commit to ending poverty for good.

If you form a government, we urge you to implement the following changes within the first year: 1. Housing | Build more social and affordable housing, and commit to providing high-quality public services such as GPs, schools, mental health support as part of the community and build. 2. Health and Wellbeing | Provide universal free school meals to all school-age children, including outside of term-time. 3. Learning and Employment | Replace the increasingly punitive job-seeker benefits system, with back to work support mentorship, confidence building and realistic routes to sustainable employment. 4. Financial and Digital Inclusion | Outlaw high-interest credit and loans, and ensure access to affordable, equitable and fair replacements. 5. Environment and Community | Invest in reskilling workers in green energy, using the Just Transition criteria. Poverty is a manmade phenomenon. As political leaders, you have the power to re-invent the systems that keep it in place. Re-invention is the only route to dismantling poverty for good. If the electorate place our trust in you, do not pass up this opportunity to end poverty for good.

Yours sincerely,
The Undersigned
