2020 Vision

Issue 1390

2020 Vision

Now that Christmas is a distant memory, here’s the next magazine looking ahead to the New Year! We look at the biggest issues that will shape 2020…

  • Of the hundreds of candidates who took the Future Generations pledge ahead of the election, 66 are now MPs. We’ll be keeping an eye on them to make sure they stick by their promise.
  • It’ll be a big year of EU and US politics too. We journey to the heart of Brussels, discovering how the Palamentarium (the EU’s slick visitor centre) is reflecting the shift in European politics. And we ask two street paper vendors from Washington DC to give us a sense of the mood in the capital as the President is impeached.
  • Who better to warn us about the future than time travelling Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker? She speaks exclusively to The Big Issue ahead of the new series starting on New Year’s Day.
  • Chris Packham writes about why punk spirit could save us from the climate crisis – and Helen Pilcher explains how humans are changing the evolutionary path of other species (especially chickens).

Also inside: Take the Younger Self quiz, royal cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason talks about accessibility to the arts and in a final twist, M Night Shyamalan explains what a creepy doll tells us about the times we’re living in.

A Happy New Year to all!
