We’ve had the memes, the jokes and the spoofs about Partygate, but now the masters have arrived. Yes, Cassetteboy have released a new video remixing Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s own words to talk about the ongoing scandal of parties at Downing Street, and they do not disappoint.
Set to the tune of Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’, the video covers the notorious “wine and cheese” event that got press secretary Allegra Stratton sacked, the suitcase of booze dragged along Whitehall, the Met Police’s refusal to investigate and more, combined with animations from collage artist Cold War Steve.
“As you comply, I socialise, with cheese and wine and forty guys,” says Johnson in the video, each word taken from a different speech and edited together. “From ‘next slide please’ to wine and cheese, the rules, you see, don’t apply to me.”
Johnson is coming under increasing and sustained pressure to resign — from his own party as well as the opposition — after weeks of stories have revealed a culture of drinking and partying in Downing Street and across government while the rest of the country was in lockdown.
