Every Copy Counts
Big Issue vendors work hard to earn a living through selling the magazine. Unfortunately, we are currently living in a time of extreme need and crisis, with food and fuel prices the highest they’ve been in 40 years. So, like millions of people across the UK affected by poverty, our vendors need additional support to get through this crisis.
So, we’ve created an enhanced package of services. From help with income budgeting, to free toiletries and warm clothes, support with energy, food bills, housing and work, to access to grants for emergencies through our Hand Up fund.
Three ways you can support
How your support helps our hardworking vendors
Jim Hannah, Dove Street, Norwich
“My customers who used to go to work have started buying online and my street sales have dipped. My pitch is completely empty in the morning so I'm doing late morning and into the afternoon. Those online subscriptions are a game changer. If they hadn't come in I don't know what would've happened.”
Simone Gill, New George Street, Plymouth
“The rising costs are terrible, I spend so much more on shopping nowadays. I have to work more hours and so I really do need to make that time count.”
Frank Thomas McGucken, Sloane Square, London
“We have all had a hard few years, with the pandemic and now the cost of living crisis. It would be great if people could support us and give a little back. Because when you give a little bit out, you get a massive big bit back.”
Steve Newcombe, Nottingham Railway Station
“There's been plenty of times that the team at Big Issue have helped me - they've been a godsend. Dave, a member of the outreach team, has helped me with my finances and sorted out my pension. Another outreach worker, Chris, arranged for me to vend inside Rock City when there have been gigs on.They've helped me more than anyone else has.”
