Morrisons and Waitrose the latest stores to stock The Big Issue magazine

The supermarket pair join the growing number of retailers to support us while vendors are off the streets due to the Covid-19 crisis

Morrisons and Waitrose

The Big Issue’s retail revolution continues as Morrisons and Waitrose become the latest shops to carry the magazine on their shelves.

You can now pick up this week’s magazine featuring an exclusive illustrated cover from The Gruffalo sketcher Axel Scheffler from Morrisons and Waitrose stores around the UK.

The supermarket pair join Sainsbury’s, McColl’s, Co-op, Asda and WH Smith in selling the magazine while are vendors temporarily off the streets due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The weekly magazine is priced at £3, with 50 per cent of the cover price going direct to our vendors — just like when they sell it on the streets.

It’s the first time in The Big Issue’s 29-year history that sales of the magazine have been taken off the streets and into stores.

The move was made necessary by the rapid spread of the virus, which itself has ushered in a whole era of firsts— as editor Paul McNamee noted in a recent column.

He also extended warm thanks to everyone who has shown their support so far – particularly the ‘thousands of new subscribers’ – saying: “If you’re one of our new readers, thank you and welcome. If you’re buying in a shop, thank you.”

As The Big Issue retail revolution continues to grow, Russell Blackman, MD, also added his thanks, saying: “The money raised will help to secure the future of the magazine and make a real difference to the lives of our vendors around the country.”

As well as picking up a copy of the magazine whilst shopping for essentials, it’s also possible to support The Big Issue and our vendors by subscribing to the magazine for three months. Head to bigissue.com/subscribe for details.

You can also subscribe on the brand-new Big Issue app, available now the App Store and Google Play.
