50 years of punk

To celebrate 50 years since punk was born, we’ve teamed up with Camden Open Air Gallery (COAG) to bring you not one, but two spectacular exhibitions. Picture This: A Public Image is a retrospective of the work of Spike Waltzer, the man who was there to photograph some of the biggest icons of punk and new wave in the late-1970s. At the same venue, The Art of Anarchy: 50 Years of Punk will show artworks by giants of the music and art scene. The likes of Stanley Donwood, John Lydon, Phill Jupitus, Dr D, Mark Denton, Jack Blam and many, many more have generously donated works that readers can win in a raffle! Details are inside the issue.

Continuing the punk theme

  • Finn Brewster Doherty, COAG’s founder, explains his motivation for keeping Camden as a place for outsiders
  • John Robb asks what has punk ever done for us? Well, a couple of things…
  • From the archives, the most anarchic quotes from punk legends we’ve interviewed over the years
  • We look at what punk means in 2026
  • And The Molotovs reveal why they decided to skip maths
