Protests are to take place across the country to demand justice for Chris Kaba, the young Black man shot dead by the Met Police in south London.

Rallies will take place in London, Brighton, Southampton, Manchester, and other towns and cities across the country, after last weekend saw thousands march through London.

Kaba was killed on September 5 by armed police after the car he was driving was flagged by an automatic number plate recognition camera. No firearm was found in his car.

His family are now demanding the officer is interviewed under caution over the shooting. Their prior demands – for suspension of the officer who shot him, a time frame for the investigation, and to see the body cam footage of Kaba’s shooting – have already been met, with the family saying they will be reviewing the footage on Wednesday.

A homicide investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct is ongoing – with the family saying a conclusion will take six to nine months to reach.

Kaba’s cousin, Jefferson Bosela, who is acting as a spokesperson for the family, has quit his job as a teacher to campaign full time.

The first demand asks: “Did the officers know that it was Chris in the car or were they simply following a suspect vehicle?”

The second states: “The suspended officer must be interviewed under caution without delay and for the family to be kept informed of this.”
