Two Big Issue vendors are up for an award for contributing to the magazine

Jo Adamson’s Royal Wedding cover and Ann Warke’s work on our ground-breaking Augmented Reality special edition have been nominated for an INSP award

Two Big Issue vendors have been nominated for an award for their amazing contribution to the magazine in the last year.

Jo Adamson and Ann Warke will go up against eight other nominees at the annual International Network of Street Papers Awards in June after they graced the cover of The Big Issue in two different ways.

Scot Jo sold The Big Issue for 10 years after losing her eyesight in a car crash but has gone on to become an artist under the name ‘Jo Sunshine Art’ and is a regular contributor to the magazine’s Street Art page.

So who better to offer up a Scottish perspective on the royal wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last May?

Her dreamy and psychedelic abstract pastel picture of the happy couple was the cover for the magazine in Scotland and is now in the running for the award.

As for Ann, her remarkable story of how Universal Credit saw her fall into spiralling debt and selling The Big Issue magazine was told for the first time in augmented reality, allowing viewers to see her tell the tale eloquently and powerfully.

Both vendors’ contribution was enormous to each respective magazine and they will find out if it will be honoured with a gong at INSP’S Global Street Paper Summit – an annual event for the 100-plus street papers including The Big Issue around the globe.

The Big Issue has already been nominated in other categories – our incredible ‘Flake News’ cover is up for the Best Cover Award and for Best Design while we are also in the running for the Best News Feature gong for Katy Johnson and Hannah Westwater’s ‘This is your brain on homelessness‘ article.

The awards ceremony will be held on June 19 in Hannover, Germany. Good luck Jo and Ann!
