End No-Fault Evictions

We’re calling on the Government to end no-fault evictions for good.

Right now, private landlords in England can evict their tenants without a reason. These no-fault evictions are one of the leading drivers of homelessness. In the last year, 25,000 people were made homeless by Section 21 evictions.

The Renters Reform Bill is our chance to change that.

It’s the biggest shake-up of the private rented sector in a generation, so we’ll be speaking up to make sure it works for England’s 11 million private renters.

The Government initially promised this Bill would end no-fault evictions, but so far they have not kept their word. Section 21 of the old Housing Act has been removed, the mechanism previously used for no-fault evictions, but the Bill has several loopholes that will allow landlords to evict tenants without a good reason.

As the Bill progresses through Parliament, we will be working to influence MPs and Peers and laying amendments that will close these loopholes and end no-fault evictions for good.

We firmly believe that having a secure home is the first step to ending poverty. The Renters Reform Bill is our opportunity to make this a reality for millions of private renters.
