Issue 1409

THANK YOU!

This week we celebrate the Covid crusaders going above and beyond during this time of crisis. It’s a celebration of the growing army of people doing their bit for others. There have been so many stories of generosity and human decency we could pick only a handful of them to salute, including Jacob (cycled 2,200 miles on his exercise bike raising thousands for The Big Issue), Laurie, 10, Hamish, eight, and Fergus, seven, pictured above (held a mini-sleepout in a cardboard box, also for The Big Issue). This magazine is for all of you, and your fellow heroes.

Also inside:

  • In March the government began moving rough sleepers from the streets and into hotels. But what next? We are determined that the country doesn’t fall back into its bad old ways – and we’ve identified a new risk too. A Big Issue special report.
  • What will the high street look like after the virus? To survive, they’ll need to think differently – but it could be a golden opportunity for positive change.
  • In her Letter to My Younger Self, Cherie Blair recalls being told to stand aside to let the man get the job.

PLUS: Robin Ince gets into the swing of isolation with some Desert Island Disc castaways; and do you know the capital of Cambodia? Get quizzing if you do!

All this, and more, only in this week’s Big Issue!
