The Archbishop and The Big Issue

Our vendor Lee Welham recently struck up a friendship with Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby – and hatched a plan to get him to don a tabard and go unannounced among his flock to get an insight into life as a vendor: “It really struck me that people weren’t looking me in the eye, people were head down, I could see people crossing the road,” he says. “But when someone did buy a magazine it felt good.”

Windrush and toppling statues

As the culture wars rage on, debate has its place, says Sir Geoff Palmer but as the country wrestles with its sense of identity, some voices must carry more weight. We also find out ahead of Windrush Day what happened to the promise to compensate those wrongly caught up in the scandal to deport legitimate British residents.
