Jon Snow serves breakfast at London homeless centre

The Channel 4 newsreader tries to drum up funds for New Horizon

Channel 4’s Jon Snow has helped serve up breakfast at a London youth day centre which helps the homeless people of the capital – and tried to drum up funds in the process.

Property developers and CEOs met for breakfast at the New Horizon in Kings Cross to discuss the capital’s homeless crisis. Newsreader Snow, the centre’s patron, had the developers cooking and serving food for the centre’s young clients, giving them a taste of the vital work which the centre carries out every day.

New Horizon is a support network for homeless or at risk 16-to-21-year-olds. It provides hot food, showers and laundry services as well as housing, training and employment support to over 7,000 young people a year. To keep up this level of work, the centre needs £200,000 of annual corporate donations, with Snow hoped to encourage benefactors over sausage and beans.

Snow said, “The generous donations from London’s leading property developers have further supported the centre’s mission to help every vulnerable or disadvantaged Londoner we can.”

Leaders from prominent property firms Galliard Homes, Cain International, O’Shea, Fairview New Homes and Aston Chase discussed designs for a new London shelter comprising emergency accommodation, long-stay lodgings, co-working spaces and communal areas.

Phil Kerry, Chief Executive of New Horizon, said: “New Horizon Youth Centre supports up to 60 young Londoners per day with everything they need to create positive futures.

“The charity breakfast has aided our ongoing corporate fundraising initiative, and it was fantastic for our young visitors to meet and talk with so many prominent figures of the property industry.”
