The Big Issue and Specsavers: A Visionary Partnership for Change

In this week's new edition of The Big Issue magazine, we are proud to highlight our growing work with our partners Specsavers, with a special cover-wrap and four-page feature inside.

In this weeks issue, on sale from vendors across the UK, and via subscription, we hear how Specsavers’ partnerships with Big Issue, Crisis, Vision Care for Homeless People and Northern Ireland’s Simon Community are breaking down barriers that prevent people with experience of homelessness from accessing eye and hearing care.

Since 2022 Big Issue has worked with Specsavers, who are our tabard sponsors, to offer all our magazine sellers vouchers for free eye tests, eye health checks and prescription glasses. And we are also offering ear wax removal to all vendors.

In this week’s issue

In this week’s special edition we also delve into the wider work that Specsavers is doing to make sure everyone receives the health care they are entitled to. Including …

➡ How Big Issue founder Lord John Bird is working alongside Specsavers to support calls for a National Eye Health Strategy for NHS England.

➡ Joining Specsavers CEO John Perkins on his travels as he hears first-hand from people with experience of homelessness how the frontline work that Specsavers is supporting through their partnerships is having a real impact.

➡ Spotlight on the growing number of out of hours and drop-in clinics and eye and hearing health services that are being offered in conjunction with frontline charities including Crisis and VCHP across the UK.

➡ The impact that Specsavers’ Crisis at Christmas campaign had on individuals at the charity’s centres.

➡ How Specsavers is championing celebrity hair stylist and homelessness and anti-poverty advocate Joshua Coombes’ #DoSomethingForNothing movement.

The latest issue of The Big Issue is out now.

Specsavers take to the streets with The Big Issue to experience life of a vendor
Dame Mary Perkins and John Perkins stand outside King’s Cross station, wearing red Big Issue tabards over their clothes. Dame Mary holds a copy of The Big Issue magazine, and both are sporting red tabards. The bustling background hints at the busy London atmosphere, with a clear sky overhead and modern architecture around. They seem engaged in their role, aiming to understand the experience of magazine vendors.
