Joe Wicks is putting on PE classes for kids during school closures

The fitness guru is stepping in to keep kids active – and he’s being hailed for it on social media

Friend of The Big Issue Joe Wicks is about to become the “nation’s PE teacher” for kids across the UK who are stuck at home as the result of school closures.

It’s going to be tough to make the ‘I forget my kit’ excuse wash when Wicks brings PE classes to kids with a livestreamed half-hour session taking place on his YouTube account from 9am on the dot on Monday March 23.

Wicks has been trending on Twitter throughout Thursday after he told his 311,000 followers of his plans. He said: “Starting Monday, every single day from Monday to Friday, I’m going to be doing a live workout called PE with Joe on my YouTube channel.  It’s a workout specifically designed for kids because when the schools are closed, there is no PE.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got you, I’m going to take this over. I’m going to get your kids moving, energised, optimistic so tune in. I am going to be the nation’s PE teacher.”

And the idea has certainly lifted the coronavirus gloom for many with the original post being liked almost 9,000 times on Twitter at the time of writing.
