An anti-Boris Johnson protest taking place in London this weekend has received the backing of Hugh Grant.

The Love Actually star turned phone hacking activist has previously branded the prime minister an “over-promoted rubber bath toy”.

The United Against Johnson protest, scheduled for Saturday 19 Feb on Parliament Square, will feature a “Downing Street Cake Party” and a football match between protesters dressed as Tory MPs and historical Britons, according to its website.

Organised by the collective Take Back Democracy, the protest comes in the wake of scandals over Downing Street parties and second jobs.

The event’s website states: “They have broken the law! It is time to send a message they cannot ignore!”

It is scheduled to begin at midday, with “pub” at 5pm promised as the final event on the itinerary.

Grant’s criticism of Johnson made headlines in 2019 after he tweeted: “Britain is revolted by you and you little gang of masturbatory prefects.”

It was met with agreement from future Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey.

Protesters are being told to bring their “mannered outrage” when they arrive on Saturday.
