Big Issue vendor Clive fulfilled his dream - by performing at the theatre he usually sells outside

Popular Big Issue vendor Clive has taken his theatre career to new heights by performing his own written monologue on the biggest stage in Plymouth, inside the Theatre Royal Plymouth

Theatre fanatic Clive, who prefers not to give his surname, performed his monologue Treemendous on the Lyric stage at Theatre Royal Plymouth on July 8, achieving a long-held dream to bring his own work to the 1,300-seater theatre.

Clive, who sells the magazine outside the theatre, has become a valued member of the Theatre Royal’s Our Space programme. The initiative gives adults with lived experience of homelessness, mental health issues and other issues the chance to get into drama.

Last year Clive told Big Issue ambassador and Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston of his ambitions to write and act for theatre. Now, he described his latest performance as a significant milestone for his acting dreams.

Clive said: “I made the big step up and, for me, to perform my own work and it being just me in that massive, great space it was a dream come true. I was so chuffed.”
